Lachlan Orton

‘When stimulated by a place, sound, feeling or scent, one is on occasion magically transported to the depths of nostalgia. This piece depicts such a phenomenon, enthralled and entranced within the clutches of the past, it references the people, keepsakes and emotions you feel upon recollection. Our experiences forge who we are and our memories act as the reminder, all are important to our identity yet simultaneously can be irrelevant to who we become, but this piece particularly aims to simply encapsulate beauty through a glimpse of recollection, of a memory warm, a tad bitter-sweet but full of wonder and whimsy.’

Raised in rural Gippsland, Lachlan is a 19 year old illustrator and graphic design student based in Melbourne. Scribbling before he could crawl, encouraging influences throughout his life have prompted him to continue his passion for art into adulthood. His subject matter is an amalgamation of creatures, inanimate objects and bright colours but predominantly references his personified emotions, thoughts and aspirations.

Lachlan’s practice is an ever-evolving muddle paired with concepts such as childhood daydreaming and the tangled narratives that are woven into his character’s interactions. None the less, he enjoys spending every waking moment expanding his fantastical roster of creations, utilising his work to reflect messages both personal and important within a capsule of whimsy and bizarre.

Bright in flavour we knew our new XPA needed a fun and exciting artwork to compliment this beer, we immediately loved ‘Rushing Back’ and thought it fit perfectly with our XPA. Thanks for this amazing piece Lachlan!
