Bio & Rationale
Anna McPhee is a Brisbane-based Australian digital collage artist working primarily with Photoshop. Her practice explores altered landscapes through layered imagery, reassembling familiar places and objects into compositions that sit between realism and surrealism.
Drawing on organic textures, floral forms, and elements of the natural world, McPhee’s work often uses repetition, colour, and shifts in scale to disrupt perspective and introduce a sense of movement. While the imagery leans toward the surreal, it remains grounded in recognisable environments and materials, creating a tension between the everyday and the imagined. Her process is intuitive and detail-driven, allowing each composition to evolve through layering and experimentation rather than rigid planning.
Following the Sun is a digital collage featured on the can of Mass Euphoria – West Coast IPA as part of Aether Brewing’s Artist Initiative. The artwork depicts a vintage van travelling along a country road toward a horizon where the sky transforms into a field of sunflowers. Familiar elements are subtly reworked, blending nostalgia with fantasy and creating a strong sense of forward motion without a fixed narrative.
McPhee’s work invites viewers to pause, observe, and form their own interpretations through atmosphere, colour, and composition rather than overt symbolism.
