Bio & Rationale
‘The Silence’ by Jason Perry is a breathtaking astrophotographic panorama shot at Lake Toolondo, Victoria. Composed of 13 stitched frames captured with a 50mm lens, the piece freezes the Milky Way as it dips towards the horizon. The result is a sprawling, immersive nightscape that captures both silence and immensity – a portrait of the universe at rest, yet alive with detail. It’s the kind of work that reminds you of your place in the cosmos, and the smallness of a glass of beer against that infinite backdrop.
Jason’s path to photography followed 27 years of service in the Marine Corps, where he developed a deep appreciation for patience, resilience, and perspective. Now based in Australia, he specialises in astrophotography, time-lapse, and wide-field landscapes. He is the founder of Veteran Focus, a non-profit that uses creative photography workshops as therapy and connection for veterans. His work has been exhibited internationally and awarded recognition including the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year (Astrophotography, 2022).
For Aether, Jason’s stellar piece was chosen for our Blackberry Sour, previously known as ‘Witching Hour’. Its deep purples and sense of mystery align perfectly with the beer’s flavour and colour – complex, otherworldly, and unforgettable. His art and our beer share that rare ability to capture both the vast and the intimate in one experience.
