Mr Smudge makes pictures from the regular nonsense of daily life – doodles, patterns, and detailed drawings stitched into lively scenes. Growing up on the Sunshine Coast and now based in West End, Brisbane, Smudge leans into community texture: odd characters, street corners, and the places where happenstance becomes story. The result is illustration that feels local and human – a little scruffy, very alive, and quietly observant.
That sensibility clicked with Aether’s Biscoff Porter. We needed artwork that nodded to indulgence without losing personality, and Smudge’s linework delivered: tactile, layered, and full of small visual jokes that reward another look. It’s the kind of image you can drink with – companionable, unfussy, and built from the same neighbourhoods we brew in.
