Bio & Rationale
Sally Heinrich is an Adelaide-based illustrator and printmaker whose practice blends tradition, storytelling, and a sharp eye for human connection. Her work spans more than forty books and countless exhibitions, weaving threads from Eastern and Western culture into images that feel both timeless and urgent. Whether on handmade paper or in community projects, her lino prints carry a tactile honesty that makes every mark matter.
Her hand-coloured lino print Exposed Nerves was chosen to represent Aether’s Twisted Vine – one of our most-loved beers, re-released for our sixth birthday. The piece twists thorny vines into patterns that echo both the nervous system and the risks of opening yourself up. Vulnerability, protection, resilience: it’s all there, and it spoke directly to our own reflections as a brewery hitting a milestone.
Sally’s work has appeared in major prizes like the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize and sits in collections across Asia, Europe, and Australia. What makes her practice distinctive isn’t just the technical tradition but the way she uses it to confront questions that matter now – about growth, struggle, and transformation. That’s why her collaboration with us felt so right: beer and art, both steeped in craft, both telling stories of renewal.
