ABOUT THE ARTIST
‘Shapes + Shit was the springboard for Brigid’s solo exhibition, it served as an excuse to play, abstract, explore and share their process in many style and mediums. The exhibition aimed to foster the fun and positivity that comes with playing and experimenting in our practice at purely an aesthetic almost naive level. This serves as a way to break out of old habits and routines to strictly make art that makes you feel good for both the creator and the viewer demanding nothing from its audience but enjoyment and satisfaction.’
Brigid Holt is a Brisbane-based artist who has been practicing seriously over the past six years but has been involved in the arts most of her life. Her works attempt to engage with colour, form, and the body in a way that is positive and expressive for both the viewer and the subject. Brigid hopes to create a sense of visual relief with her block like mosaic style and bright colouring to celebrate sexuality, self, and promote confidence. Everybody is beautiful, every shape is beautiful and through abstracting one is dissociated from their ego and focused completely on the shapes in front of them. The viewer finds a new way of seeing themselves, engaging in a quasi-psychedelic expression of form. Seeing others in this way allows for a rediscovery of what constitutes identity, seeing self through others.
Thanks Brigid for sharing ‘Shapes + Shit’ and keeping the funk alive with our Hazy Hemp IIIPA!
