Sally Heinrich

‘exposed nerves’ is based on the human nervous system, created with the intention of being viewed in a number of ways it may represent the gamble which is part of exposing your inner self to the world, or even just to a single person. Is it the potential pain from the thorns worth the sweet promise of the budding rose? Or perhaps the Twisted Vine is cultivated in defence as protection from the world… ? This hand coloured lino print was created by carving the design, in mirror image, into a lino block. The black was printed by hand on Japanese handmade paper, and coloured using watercolour paints and links.

Sally has been writing and drawing for as long as she can remember, and has so far managed to avoid getting a real job. Much of her work is drawn from her interest in the art, religion, tales and traditions of the east and the west, and also a deep connection to home. She delights in the interweaving threads which connect people, communities, cultures and the environment. Her work includes illustrations for more than forty books. Her artwork and lino prints are widely commissioned, collected and exhibited in Australia , Asia and Europe, including in the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, the Adelaide Parklands Art Prize, the SA Library, Singapore and Melbourne zoos, community projects and schools.

It made sense to re-release one of our most popular beers to date for our birthday this year, honouring our past and celebrating future, and Sally’s beautifully introspective piece was a perfect representation of all we’ve been through the last 6 years.
